According to New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson, Virat Kohli’s abysmal run in the Indian Premier League will have no bearing when he leads India to World Cup. Part of New Zealand’s World Cup squad, tearaway fast Ferguson, who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL in India, said Kohli is an’ international superstar’ and the Kiwis will be wary of him regardless of what happens in the IPL.

“He is an international superstar. Playing for RCB is a lot different than playing for India,” Ferguson told in an interview.

Kohli’s Bangalore Royal Challengers have failed to win seven out of the eight games so far this season and are all but out of a playoff berth. Kohli wasn’t out of shape, accumulating 278 runs at an average of 34.75 from eight matches. But India’s captain has failed to live up to reputation by his lofty standards.

“He doesn’t have the wins he’d like (in T20s), but that’s not to say he’s going to go badly at the World Cup,” said the 27-year-old. “It’s a different competition, different team and different format.” Ferguson said New Zealand will have to be cautious about Kohli like all teams when they lock horns at the World Cup as he’s always a threat. “He scored runs and is still going to be a threat.”

“For me personally, playing in games is often the best. So, from a physical point of view it’s not so tough but playing in the heat and things like that, travel takes a bit of a toll. But for me, getting game time will help in the World Cup.”
