“I want to die”- Chowkidar

The most popular slogan in the country today is “Mein bhi Chowkidar” …. This slogan is reaching new heights where everyone big or small is chanting the slogan “Mein bhi chowkidar”. Our Prime Minister in  seen delivering the slogan and has even adressed it in his “Mann ki baat” address to the nation… but now an actual ‘Chowkidar’ by profession from Uttarakhand Dehradun wants to seek permission to commit suicide.

This is a story of ‘chowkidar’ Prem Ram, who is depressed and helpless. He was an honest man and was dedicated and hardworking. But to his dismay, he was sacked from his job by the authorities for reasons unkown to him. Now, he finds it difficult to even fill his stomach each day. He finds himself tired of all this and wishes to end his life.Seeing the twist of time, on one hand we have our PM encouraging everyone with his slogan “main bhi chowkidar” which translates to ‘even im a guardian’ and on the other hand an actual ‘chowkidar ‘ by profession is submitting a plea for suicide.

The problem of a helpless man is that he was removed from the women’s empowerment department some time ago, the ‘chowkidar’ Prem Ram was employed on contractual basis in the women’s empowerment department, which was suddenly removed without any notice. Since then, he has got a positive attitude from the government and the administration that has joined in the fight of his rights and has been waiting for the last 40 days. But there is no one to hear this poor man.
