Delhi cop shoots himself in the staff quarters of West Delhi, dies

A Delhi Police Chief Constable allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself at staff quarters in the Hari Nagar area of west Delhi with his service pistol, police said Monday.

The deceased, Satish Kumar (50), has been posted to police station in Vikaspuri, they said. The incident took place on the fourth floor of the staff quarters on Sunday night in Quarter No. 406, an official said.

When the police reached the spot, they found Kumar’s body on the left temporal region with a gunshot entry wound and an exit wound above the right ear, he said.

A service pistol was seized from the spot with four live cartridges, one blank cartridge, and one lead, the officer said, adding that there was no suicide note.

The body was moved to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital mortuary, he said. His wife and two sons, one of whom serves in the Indian Air Force, survive Kumar and are currently posted in Silchar, Assam, police said.
