A special court passed an application on Wednesday in relation to a rape trial to question three Mumbai police staff. The request was filed by the father of the victim as these policemen coerced the minor gangrape victim to marry her rapist in 2013.

Special Judge Madhuri H More allowed the application and the summons sent to senior inspector Jaywant Shinde, inspector Vivek Shinde, and constable women MA Bhosale to be issued.

The three will face trial for failing to report the sexual offense under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act.

The request was lodged through lawyer Wesley Menezes after the victim was lodged in court in February narrating how the officers forced her to marry the accused against her will. At the time of the incident, she was 13 years old.

The victim’s family had also filed a writ petition before the Bombay High Court and a special team was formed to investigate the case.

While the three policemen were not named as accused by the SIT, an application was filed under the Criminal Procedure Code after the deposition of the victim and her father.

Lawyers of accused contented there was no substantial evidence except for deposition of the victim and her father. However, the court rejected their contention.
