Lokjan Today, Nainital: Nainital High Court has issued orders to hold elections in Roorkee Municipal Corporation and Nagar Panchayat Selakukai within two months. Not only this, the court has asked to hold elections on the basis of the old delimitation. It is learned that the bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Alok Kumar Verma had reserved the verdict by completing the hearing.

The case was heard before the Bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice Alok Kumar Verma. Former Mayor of Roorkee Municipal Corporation, Yashpal Rana and others filed a public interest petition in the High Court saying that the state government had included Padhli and Rampur Gujar in the municipal corporation in 2015. Later, the government issued the notification on December 6, 2018, in rule-by-law, and put both of these villages out of the municipal area.
The petitioner said that once a village has been included in the municipal corporation, there is no provision to exclude it. No reason has been given to the villagers for the reason that both the villages are excluded from the municipal corporation. Due to this dispute, municipal elections have not been held so far.
