Elephant cub injured due to collision with truck. Driver under custody.

Dehradun: Elephant’s child was injured in a truck collision in Mani Mai Temple Highway under Lachhiwala forest range. The crashed truck is in the possession of Forest Department. Driver and cleaner were detained. The injured elephant is being treated. Luchihala range forest officer Munendra Dangwal told that the incident took place around 1:00 pm. The truck coming towards Deewala from Dehradun suddenly took a small child of the elephant who was crossing the road and was caught under the vehicle. The baby elephant was badly injured. On receiving the information of the incident, the team of forest department reached the spot. Due to the truck and injured baby elephant on the highway, the condition of the jam remained. In the meantime, the elephants running with the mother were injured due to the wheezing of elephants and also the passengers. By the team of forest department the children of the injured elephants were brought in the Lachiwala forest premises.Truck driver and cleaner have been detained. It is being told that the breaks of the truck had failed. The elephant is being treated by a team of doctors in the forest campus. On the spot, DFO deputy divisional officer of the forest department Rishikesh has also reached the spot.
