Other politicians may have different dreams but all former chief ministers, especially those unable to complete their full term, aspire to win back the coveted post.

This is, however, not the case in Jharkhand, where the shifting sands of electoral politics have seen as many as three former chief ministers trying their luck in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. This is irrespective of the fact that Jharkhand is scheduled for assembly poll later this year.

Jharkhand has had six chief ministers since the state was created in November 2000. The first three, Babulal Marandi, Arjun Munda and Shibu Soren, are contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha election. It doesn’t seem to be a party-specific phenomenon either as all these former chief ministers are now with different political parties.

Jharkhand went to for polls in three phases on April 29, May 6 and May 12. Election in the last phase of polling will take place on May 19 in three seats in Jharkhand.
