Dehradun: Since the resignation of Rahul Gandhi, continuous discussions were going on for the new Congress National President. Now on Wednesday, since Rahul Gandhi has formally declared the resignation that he is no longer the national president of the Congress. Since then the market of speculation is hot, who will be the next president. However, at present, Congress Treasurer Motilal Bora is talking about making Interim President. Meanwhile, in this race, Harish Rawat is being told that he can also be made the president. Let’s say that Harish Rawat is the leader of the Uttarakhand Congress who defeated BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi during the United States in 1980. Harish Rawat is considered to be one of the key politicians of Uttarakhand who emerged stronger after being defeated with his opponents. Rawat was a five-time MP from the state of Maharashtra and during the year 2012- 2014, he was made the Minister of Water Resources in the Government of Manmohan Singh. Rawat was a member of the Indian Youth Congress, and his political career took off when he defeated senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi on Almora parliamentary seat during the seventh Lok Sabha election in 1980. After that, he also won in the eighth and ninth Lok Sabha elections.

That year, in 2000, when the State Party became the president of the unit, Uttarakhand was separated from Uttar Pradesh. In 2002, he was elected the Rajya Sabha member. He had to leave his traditional Almora seat due to the seat reserved for Scheduled Castes during the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. After that Rawat landed in Haridwar Lok Sabha constituency. He defeated BJP’s Swami Yatishwaranand Giri by more than three lakh votes. Rawat was made the chief minister in 2014 when his party colleague Vijay Bahuguna was accused of not handling the natural disaster in July 2013 properly. Along with that, Vijay Bahuguna was also accused of irregularities in the financial fund. 69-year-old Rawat won sub-election from Dharchula seat next year. The Rawat government was shocked when nine Congress MLAs opened a front against him in 2016. The presidential rule was imposed in the state on March 27, 2016, between party crisis. All rebel legislators joined BJP and created trouble for the party. Rawat lost both Haridwar Rural and Kichan in both the 2017 assembly elections. The Congress got only 11 seats out of 70 seats in it, while BJP won on 57 seats. Rao’s tenure is also known for the video of the sting operation, in which Congress rebel legislators were seen deleting to bring back the party. He later believed that he was in that video.
