Akshay Kumar is enthusiastic about being part of the cop universe of Rohit Shetty. The actor will be starring Katrina Kaif in Rohit’s Sooryavanshi directorial. The film will be set in the 1990s, according to reports on an entertainment website.

A source close to the development said to the entertainment website, “Rohit is planning to present Akshay in an unseen-before avatar. It’s not going to be in any way similar to the Singham or Simmba franchise. It’s not going to be based in modern times. Akshay’s character will solve an important case in the 1990s. He’s the head of the Anti Terrorism Unit (ATU). The movie will trace how Akshay becomes Sooryavanshi and it will be followed up with another sequel, too.”

Sooryavanshi will be hard to direct for Rohit unlike his other films. The source explained, “The film will be tracked to a time when you don’t have CCTV cameras and social media. Therefore, the treatment has to be very different and it will also trace how the police would investigate cases without these modern-day proof-proof equipment.”

Rohit has directed to supremely successful cop dramas in the past – Singham and Simmba. Both the films were blockbusters.

Singham showed Ajay Devgn in the lead role and Simmba starred Ranveer Singh. Rohit introduced Veer Sooryavanshi, chief of the Anti-Terrorism Squad, Akshay’s character in Sooryavanshi, through a cameo in Simmba. Ajay Devgn also had a cameo in Simmba.
