Tree plantation at Doon International School by Friends of Doon Society.

Dehradun. Today, under the Green Doon Project, run by Friends of Doon Society and Asia Initiative, a plantation program was organized at Doon International School in Pondha where 365 saplings were planted and students pledged to take full care of the saplings.

Before planting trees, the students were informed about the benefits of the trees, then the local trees were planted in the school premises by the students / Mr. Bharat Sharma told that till now the Friends of the Doon Society in this monsoon Nearly 10,000 saplings have been planted in 35 schools by the various institutions of Doon Valley. Trees have already been planted in institutions like Passal Weed School, Hope Town School, Colonel Brown School, Heritage School, Indian Institute of Petroleum, etc.

Shri HS Mann said that Doon Valley is losing its aura and it is our endeavor to make Doon Valley green again.
Since its inception in 1985, The Friends of Doon Society planted trees in different places in the Doon Valley every year in the monsoon under its project “Tree for Doon”. The main objective of this institution is to save the trees which are planted, hence the plantation is done only in safe places. This year the Friends of Doon Society, with the assistance of the Asia Animative, aims to plant 12000 saplings in the Doon Valley, with the help of various schools, ashrams, and other institutions in Dehradun. The plantation is mainly being done by students. In this series, tree planting was done at Doon International School today. The purpose of this entire program is to connect the next generation with nature. The awareness session was organized with the students where they were told about the importance of trees and an attempt was made to know from the students how much they know about the tree. The children then learned about the right way to plant saplings in the school premises and then planted saplings. On this occasion, it was pledged by all the students that they would make trees their friends and take care of them.
The entire program was supported by Mr. HS Mann, Mrs. Sonika Mann, Wing Commander Sandeep Sharma, and Mr. Dilip George. The Friends of Doon Society, Mrs. Sunita Rekhi, Mr. Rajiv Rekhi Mr. Sudhir Wadera, Mr. Bharat Sharma, etc. were present.
