Uttarakhand doctor is on a 24-hour strike in protest against passing the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill in Parliament. Private clinics, OPDs, and private nursing homes are closed today. Private doctors across the state will not work from 6 am to 6 am on Thursday morning against the National Medical Commission (NMC) bill. Although ICU, casualty, emergency service, etc. have been kept free from the strike. This strike has been kept on the call of the IMA.

Dr. DD Chaudhary, General Secretary of IMA Uttarakhand has called this bill anti-people, he said that this will not only reduce the quality of medical education but also in health care. Dr. Chaudhary said that there is a provision for licensing of 3.5 lakh unskilled and non-physicians for practicing modern medicine in section 32 of the NMC bill. The term ‘Community Health Provider’ has been defined in a vague manner, which allows any person associated with modern medicine to get registered in NMC and obtain licenses for doing the modern practice. This is a conspiracy to legitimize the law. Not only compounders, pathologists, lab technicians, radiologists, blood samples may also be able to give some special medicines.

NMC bill will prove beneficial for private medical colleges and this will make medical education costlier. Apart from this, the quality of education will also be affected. There are several such provisions in this bill that will also be harmful to medical students. Said that the IMA will continue to oppose this bill.

In the same region, people are facing a lot of problems from the strike. However, there is no protest in the government hospital at this time.
