On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, political pundits will brainstorm about how a government was formed because of “pro-incumbency” for the first time since independence.

Addressing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi, Narendra Modi said, “I have seen many elections and it is for the first time that the country is seeing a pro-incumbency wave.”

The address of Prime Minister Modi to BJP workers came ahead of him by filing Varanasi’s nomination papers.

Modi held a mega roadshow in Varanasi on Thursday that saw large numbers of BJP workers crowding the streets. He also attended the famous Ganaga aarti of Varanasi later in the day.

Modi said he wants to see that in this election, despite the summer heat, all previous records of voting turnout are broken. “Can we make sure that women’s turnout is 5% higher than men’s turnout? I wanted to do this in Gujarat but I couldn’t.”

Speaking to BJP workers, Modi said, “It is the result of the hard work of all BJP workers that there is an atmosphere of happiness and joy in the country. People themselves say ‘ phir ek baar Modi sarkar … phir ekj baar Modi sarkar (Modi government, again).”
