2019 election results: Race between Rahul Gandhi and Smriti Irani in Amethi

The big day of the result of the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections is here. One of the key fights in these elections was Amethi, where the president of Congress Rahul Gandhi is opposed to the Smriti Irani of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Smriti Irani is leading in Amethi, pushing Rahul Gandhi to second place, according to current trends. Smriti Irani took the lead in Amethi by approximately 2,000 votes.
Amethi will be the litmus test for Rahul Gandhi, who is also competing from a second seat in Wayanad in Kerala apart from contesting from the pocketborough family in Uttar Pradesh. Although for Rahul Gandhi, Wayanad may be an easy win, he faces a tough contest in Amethi.
The exit poll shows that while the alliance led by Congress is Amethi’s most popular alliance, the individual position of Congress is not very bright. The party faces a tough popularity challenge from the BJP.
The 2014 Lok Sabha elections may have been lost by BJP leader Smriti Irani, but neither Rahul Gandhi’s record in Amethi nor Congress appears to have dissuaded the minister of the Union whose campaign this year was relentless.
The winning margin for Rahul Gandhi over Smriti Irani was just over 1 lakh vote. He had won about 2.70 lakh votes in the 2009 election.
