With BJP registering a thumping majority and defying historical trends since 2000 in the Uttarakhand Assembly elections, feckless Congress seems to cop-out and accuses UttarakhandCongress leader Harish Rawat of selling tickets.
State Congress Working President Ranjit Rawat lashed out at Harish Rawat earlier, accusing him of selling posts in exchange of humongous amount of money. He also claims that with these promises Harish Rawat has already gathered large sums of money.
In response to Congress’ accusations Harish Rawat saidTuesday, March 15, 2022 “if these allegations of selling tickets turn out to be true, then consequentially I should be ousted and expelled from the party”.
He tweeted, “An evil like him should be burnt by the Congress on this Holi”.
Harish Rawat faced a crushing defeat from LalKuwaconstituency in the assembly elections and this has reignited the power tussle in the hill state. Ranjit Rawat has been a close aide of Harish Rawat but post the falling out in 2017 their friendship turned into enmity.
Ranjit Rawat also expressed his disapproval when Harish Rawatannounced that he would contest elections from Ramnagar seat where Ranjit Rawat had been building his base post his defeat in 2017. Harish Rawat asked Ranjit Rawat to fight from Salt seat, which did not go down well with Ranjit for obvious reasons.
Observing this infighting, which is a natural phenomenon in Congress, the central leadership shifted both of them out of the Ramnagar seat and gave Ranjit Rawat Salt and Harish RawatLalkuwa seats. The perpetual infighting affected the perception of the voters adversely and Congress could only secure 19 seats where BJP secured 47 seats out of the 70 seats crossing the 36-majority mark in the Assembly Polls 2022.
This goes to show that the 130 years old party is facing existential crisis let alone being astray from practicing constructive politics. The weak-kneed central leadership of the Congress seems to be losing ground and put its regional leadership in jeopardy. This approach of dynastic politics will not be propitious for the party as it lacks political prudence.
